The Masons Island Yacht Club was established in 1927 by a group of residents of Masons Island, which lies in the mouth of the Mystic river in the historic sailing town of Mystic, Connecticut. The Yacht Club was established with land on the southeastern side of the island that was donated by the Allyn family, who had acquired various areas of Masons Island from the Mason family.
The first members of the Yacht Club were families that had established either summer or year-round residences on Masons Island. As a testiment to the beauty and strong family ties that exists on Masons Island, descendents of quite a few of the original families that started the Yacht Club in 1927 are still residents of the island and active members of the Yacht Club, even to this day.
